Created from totora this stylish lounger is not only good looking, but surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic. Totora is an aquatic plant, a giant bulrush that grows in the marshlands of South America. Since earliest times, it has been used to make huts, boats and sleeping mats and is viewed as a great natural resource in the Andean countries. In recent years, totora has been successfully used for building insulation and more lately in Ecuador, to create contemporary pieces of furniture that add style to any living room, bedroom or conservatory. In keeping with modern life, the lounger is easy to care for and requires nothing more than a regular wipe wipe with household vinegar. The lounger was created by Juan Fernando Hildago Cordero, who was presented with an award by UNESCO for ‘excellence in crafts of the Andean countries’ The cushion measures 80 X 120 cm and is 20cm in thickness but it can be made-to-order to any size.
