Fan Ni

Lightly adding feathered strokes to the beautiful flower he was painting, the depth of colour of each petal and its fine detail slowly emerged on the porcelain, contrasting with the soft green of the leaves around it. Fan Ni was born in Jingdezhen, surrounded by the world's finest porcelain and found himself inspired by the stunning work of the artists he spent so many hours watching in the labyrinth of studios and workshops in the city.

The natural resources of the area include kaolin which is used to make the high quality porcelain for which the city is world famous. Fan Ni eagerly describes as he works, the rich history of the city's porcelain that can be traced back 2,000 years. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Jingdezhen was one of the four most commercially rich cities in China.

Today, Fan Ni is a Master and a member of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Arts Association. Known for his stunning paintings on porcelain of large flower blossoms that are almost three dimensional in appearance from his clever use of different tones of the same colour to add depth and detail to each part of his exquisite blooms.
